The ongoing divorce proceedings between actor Jayam Ravi and Aarti Ravi have taken another turn after Aarti’s mother, producer Sujatha Vijayakumar, responded to reports claiming that her daughter had sought ₹40 lakh per month as maintenance.
Addressing the media, Sujatha denied that the amount was intended as personal maintenance for Aarti, stating that the financial support discussed in court was related to the family’s existing obligations, including the children’s education and expenses.
Sujatha alleged that the family had been left facing significant financial difficulties and claimed that debts had accumulated following Ravi Mohan’s departure from the household. She said the family was struggling with expenses and that even the house had received a bank attachment notice.
“Aarti did not ask for ₹40 lakh as monthly maintenance for herself,” Sujatha said, adding that the financial requirements involved the children’s education, daily expenses and other commitments.
She further stated that the court had directed Ravi Mohan to take responsibility for his children’s education and provide monthly financial support. According to Sujatha, the children study at an international school and their annual school fees amount to around ₹86 lakh. She claimed that the court had ordered Ravi to bear these costs, along with monthly payments of ₹3 lakh to Aarti and ₹1 lakh each to their sons, Aarav and Ayaan. She also said he was required to cover expenses related to the children’s extracurricular activities.
Sujatha also rejected allegations that Aarti had prevented Ravi from meeting their children. She said her daughter had approached the court earlier to ensure that the children could maintain a relationship with their father.
“We have never stopped him from seeing the children. Aarti herself filed a visitation petition because she wanted them to have a bond with their father,” Sujatha said.
She added that the recent court order allowing regular meetings between Ravi and his children had brought some relief after a prolonged period of uncertainty. According to her, previous meeting arrangements had caused discomfort for the children because they were expected to take place in the presence of a healer, which made them hesitant.
Sujatha said she hoped the latest court directions would help the family move towards reconciliation and healing.
Ravi Mohan and Aarti Ravi announced their separation in September 2024 after 15 years of marriage. The couple had tied the knot in 2009 and have two sons, Aarav and Ayaan.
